Energy of the organization is an important topic with articles, report and book associated with Harvard Business Review and HBS Press
You are a value creating leader for your group, team or organization only when you can energize and motivate your team of direct reports (followers) to perform at a higher level to achieve the objectives and goals set for the group/team/organization.
For doing any task, program or strategic initiative, as a leader, you have to bring forth energy from inside of you. The energy should be visible to your followers. Then the process of energizing them will start. Vision and strategy, the organization structure, and the culture are the devices for creating the motive and energy within your followers.
The topic that I selected for highlighting as a top management challenge is an important issue in management and leadership practice. I come to know of it today (6 April 2017) as I searched the net for additional information. I shall develop this article into a bigger one some time later after the April A to Z Blogging challenge is completed.
Leader Energy Input to Organization
Anabolic (energy) leaders have the ability to motivate and inspire themselves and others to do extraordinary things. They have the ability to make energetic shifts in all levels of the organization. The most successful organizations are those that are filled with powerful, positive, anabolic leaders, and that means everyone in the organization, not just the “ones at the top.” (http://energyleadership.com/energy-leadership/)
Energizing The Organization in the Four Dimensions
The Human Era calls for a new kind of leader, whose most fundamental role is to serve as Chief
Energy Officers, responsible for mobilizing, focusing, inspiring, and regularly recharging the
energy of those they lead.
In the physical dimension, that means ensuring that team members effectively balance intense
effort with real renewal at various intervals of time including within a day.
Emotionally, the charge to leaders is to truly care for those they lead, do not create negative emotions and try to create positive emotions that enhance energy. – Believing the capacity of subordinates to exceed the organization's expectations is the starting point. Provide the best training and understanding to the employees of the organization. Just as in battle, the strategy is to put employees in tasks where they can with through their tactical play.
Mentally, effective leaders create an environment in which employees are empowered to set clear
priorities and firm boundaries, so they’re able to focus in an absorbed way on immediate, tactical
work, to take sacrosanct time for creative and strategic thinking, and to work flexibly, in ways that best suit their personal and organizational needs.
Finally, in the spiritual dimension, the best leaders define a clear and compelling vision and a set of values that inspire team members – while serving themselves as role models who walk their talk.
